KPS’s NAIDOC Week Assembly

Friday 10th July, 2pm

Just a reminder that next week is NAIDOC Week. We will be joining in with the festivities right across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Students are asked to come to school on Friday wearing RED, YELLOW and BLACK (and their school hat), and bring a gold coin donation to support our school’s involvement in the Yarnup program.

Parents, family and friends, please join us at our NAIDOC Week assembly.

When: Friday 10th July, 2009         Venue: School playground - Area 1.          Time: 2pm

We would love to see you all there!

I am very pleased to advise that, as part of the Australian Government’s “Primary Schools for the 21st Century” program, Kensington PS has been included in Round 2 and is scheduled to have a new library built, with 3 first floor classrooms.
These will be located on the site of the existing Music Room block and OOSH Centre. All of these will be relocated during construction.
The architect, coincidentally, is an ex student of Kensington!
Ms Jones (Principal)

A HUGE THANK YOU

Our Biggest Morning Tea was A BIG success. We raised $749.00.
Thank you to all students who bought in food and made a donation.
A BIG Thankyou to all those parent helpers who helped with the set up and then the clean up.

TOILETS UPGRADE

Today work has begun on the refurbishment of all school toilets, including an upgrade of the sewer system. The senior (Y3-6) toilets and wet area will be closed for the rest of the term. All students will use the K-2 toilets (some larger bowls will be installed in some cubicles).
Various areas will be fenced off but the drainage works will be done in the next school holidays.
Please encourage your children to obey all safety signs and rules and behave sensibly at all times.
Parents - please do not ignore safety signs, fences etc. This is dangerous for you and a very bad example to all students.
This is a welcome improvement to our school and has been eagerly anticipated!

Building the Education Revolution

This week it was announced (Round 2 of BER) that KPS would receive $150,000 to upgrade our school as part of the National Pride Program. This will enable our school to complete Stage 2 of the grassed area (Stage 1 was completed in the last holidays) on Doncaster Ave and update the staffroom and offices.

Major works have also been proposed –Completion of a new Library with classrooms upstairs on the site of the existing Music room building. This proposal will not have a larger “footprint” that at present, so our playground space will not be lost.

Congratulations to James and Claire (Year 6) who have successfully auditioned for the 2009 NSW Public Schools Drama Ensemble.

Our water tanks installation is well under way. We have received the water tanks through the hard work of Ms McDonald and Ms Trotter with a committee of staff who worked extremely hard completing the "Water Grant". This enabled us to install three tanks that will be used to water our gardens and flush our toilets.

Thank you to Randwick Council for keeping the paths and gutters around our school clean and tidy

                Principal’s Message
